The Merkos School in Milan had the honor of welcoming Elena Colonna, author of the moving novel Milena and Her Children, for a meeting with students, teachers, and families.
Elena Colonna, a writer and researcher, has dedicated herself for years to preserving the memory of the Shoah through storytelling that intertwines history, testimony, and personal reflection. Milena and Her Children is a work inspired by true events, telling with sensitivity and depth the story of a Jewish mother and her children during the dark years of Nazi persecution, highlighting the courage, identity, and quiet resistance of many families swept up in the storm of antisemitism.
The event was part of a broader series of activities that Merkos promotes every year to keep historical and cultural awareness of the Holocaust alive among younger generations.
Yom HaShoah, the “Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day,” is observed every year on the 27th of the Hebrew month of Nisan and commemorates the six million Jewish victims of Nazism, also honoring Jewish resistance, such as that of the Warsaw Ghetto.
